I have owned A Tutors Touch for over ten years. I have been actively tutoring for many years prior to that.
I specialize in basic math evaluation as well as developing and implementing an individual math curriculum for each student. I also enjoy creating a study plan for students to do on days when they are not being tutored. This plan increases their retention, decreases the number of tutoring sessions needed, and saves the parents a lot of money. I have had special training in phonics, language arts, and handwriting. I also enjoy teaching developmental reading.
I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Elementary Education in 1992 and was certified k – 8. My focus was correcting reading disorders. I have had extensive training in the “Sail Away” phonics, language arts, and handwriting program.
I was a public school teacher for several years and stopped teaching to raise my family. When my family got older, instead of going back to work as a teacher, I tutored.
My philosophy: Learning is like a tower of blocks. Without a strong foundation, a tower of blocks will collapse and construction must stop. Foundational skills must be mastered for the student to progress and be successful.
